Our favourite (Emily is not old enough to vote legally) park was on the agenda again today. We planned being there early as I wasn’t able to get fast passes for Mickey, Minnie and Goofy. At 8:20am we left the house at 8:40 we were waiting inside the park for rope drop. Rope drop is the official opening of the park.
As soon as this was done we headed to Joy and Sadness from the movie Inside Out and we were second inline. In December we had a fantastic meet and great here. Today it was regular, also the setting change no more controls panel for example. But we were able to keep the autograph book out of Emily her side,
Right after we went to the Character Spot, just 5 minutes waiting time for a picture with a Mickey, Goofy and Minnie. Emily loved Goofy for some reason she wasn’t afraid at all. Here Emily saw the book but there was no drama this time and everyone got a kiss, for Minnie she took her pacifier out..,
Next we went back to the entrance for a picture with the one and only Daisy Duck. The cast member was really helpful, she got the autograph before it was our time to meet with her, Emily walked up on her own and gave Daisy a big hug.
Now it was time for our first Fast Pass, Soarin for Danielle. She got me a baby switch pass for later that day. The remainder of the day we did not use any Fast Passes by the way. While Danielle was Soarin’ over the World Emily and I where visiting the After Market from Test Track.
Until I found out that there were playgrounds added throughout the park for kids to play. Officially Emily needed to be 2 years old but because she is tall and I speak Dutch the attendant didn’t even dare to ask me about here age. Emily had a lot of fun going up and down stairs and sliding down the slide. Mama joined with some ice tea from the local Starbucks before we walked towards World Showcase, our favourite area in Epcot.
While walking through the park we also made some pictures from and with the Disney themed topiaries, below a selection from what there is to see in the park p.
World showcase is only partially open until 11 o’clock. We went counter clock wise and here you can only walk up towards French were there is another rope drop. We made this on as well and we ended up being fourth in line for a picture with Belle in her village outfit.
The photo was not (yet) available in our Memory Maker and will follow later. 🙁 And now with the photo from Belle!
While walking there I reserved a table at the Biergarten. This is a buffet restaurant in the German pavilion with Bavarian style food, it’s not exactly the same! We sat on the table with people from Hamilton in Ontario, about 1,5 hours from where we live. Emily’s appetite was enormous nothing she didn’t eat…
Just before we arrived our car Emily woke up. At home we played a little bit and Emily had another nap from about an hour. When she woke up we went to Twistee Trear for ice cream and got us some Chicken Nuggets from McDonalds on the way back home.
After dinner we decided to jump in the pool with our new floating thing for Emily. In the beginning she didn’t really enjoy it but in the end she didn’t want to leave her island. The best part of the pool is splashing water. I splashed a lot to make her laugh.
Emily and mama are both still not 100%. For Emily this meant waking up at 6:28am and a couple more times last night. Not exactly how we imagined our vacation but we know why she wakes up.
After playing a bit and calling Opa (Grandpa) to congratulate him with his 64th birthday we left the villa towards Disney Springs. Here we did some shopping. Mama got a new shirt from Lilly Pilitzer, early Mother’s Day gifts a new bracelet from Alex & Ani and 2 Pandora special Disney Park edition beads. Emily got a new dress from Lilly Pulitzer!
Emily was very tired and we decided to go back to villa, we got ourselves some lunch at Chick-Fill-A as take out. At home we got some lunch, we played a bit in the backyard where Emily showed us how good she can get up a step already, it’s not necessary to hold her hand anymore. Also she fell again on her knees and now she has two scraped knees!
Emily went to bed, mama started with some laundry and I played a with the settings of the rental car, an Extended Ford Expedition! It also has CarPlay but it didn’t worked that well, I found the issue and I can’t fix it as the USB interfaces are damaged. Too bad but at least I figured out some other convenient features which were disabled by previous users.
After playing I went to the grocery store for some ointment for Emily her knees and band-aid! She never wanted to wear a band-aid before so I needed to come up with something very special to make sure they would stay on long enough.
On my way there I saw the sky turning darker and darker but lucky for me I got into the Super Target just before the thunderstorm!
That was a bit different when I left, the water was centimeters high on the parking lot and I was wearing my leather Havaianas…complete soaked in a meter of 10 steps.
On the way back to the villa I decided to fill up the car at the WaWa gas station. That sounds early but National gives out cars which are not full, ours was only half full when we got it. If we are lucky we might make it the rest of the vacation on this fuel.
Back at home Emily didn’t sleep that well and I decided to hold her for her afternoon nap. She slept another 1,5 hour sticking to me in one of the kid beds in the villa. I enjoyed every moment of it, I hope she got some rest and is fitter tomorrow.
In the evening we played a bit and Emily was allowed to watch Sofia the First on Netflix before it was time for a bed time story and her bed. After Emily went to bed we relaxed on the couch hoping Danielle would be fit again on Mother’s Day!
After years of debating to go or not to go on a cruise we decided to do it this year. After all it’s not a special year at all, Mama is turning 33, Emily is turning 2, we are married for 9 years, we are together for 14 years and I turn 35 which makes it a grand total of 93! So we decided to make it something special ourselves.
Needless to say it needed to be with the Disney Cruise Line and after reviewing the possiblities we found a 4 night cruise to the Bahamas! The price was right, the available rooms were right, the weather is supposed to be right and ports of call sound interesting.
- Day 1: Port Canaveral, Florida
- Day 2: Nassau, Bahamas
- Day 3: Disney Castaway Cay
- Day 4: At Sea
- Day 5: Port Canaveral, Florida
We’ll be sailing around on the Disney Dream, one of the bigger and newer ships. Doesn’t it look huge on the pictures? It’s also a ship we have not seen before. We had seen the Disney Fantasy in 2011 in New York City Disney Wonder in San Francisco in 2012.
We already know in which room we will stay, Stateroom no. 9610. It’s on the starboard side of the ship just behind the center of the ship and above the lifeboats. It’s a very spacious room but the price was more then reasonable compared to the other room types and we wanted to make this year special! The room looks pretty big for a room on a ship.
But to dive in some more details it’s not just a cruise. We arrive the night before embarkation (boarding) on Orlando International Airport (MCO) where we stay for the night in the Hyatt Regency. The morning after we step a board the Disney Cruise Line bus which brings us to Port Canaveral.
After disembarkation (leaving the ship) we pick up a Standard SUV at Alamo in Port Canaveral and we drive to the Dream Villa. It’s the same villa in which we stayed last year December and we can’t wait to go back. It’s very close to the Disney parks, has a nice pool with spa, grill, toys for Emily and fast internet for us.
Oh and the best thing every day it’s a day less until we are back in our favourite state in the United States:
