Our Family life...

Container arrival day and more…

On Saturday after we bought our car Sander was flying to Germany for a one-week business trip. So like I already wrote in my last blog post, I have the remote control all for myself this week. So on Saturday evening a watched a movie and some TV series on Netflix.

On Sunday the weather was great so I decide to go for a walk. So after I bought a Salted Caramel Mocha at the Starbucks in our building on Yonge Street and Mount Pleasant Road and made pictures from our building seem from different sides. The Sunday was more of lazy Sunday, with doing some laundry, watching TV and in the evening I walked together with Sabrina up north on Yonge Street and I have to say that it is already getting pretty cold here in Toronto, we already need our winter jackets.

On Monday I was preparing for our container to come on Tuesday, so I put everything in our condo on the side so that the movers can work quickly. In the evening I went together with Sabrina to Spring Roll for all-you-can-eat sushi. The restaurant is only one block away from our building and the food is really good and also the cocktails.

Tuesday morning at 9:00 am I got a call from the front desk, that the container arrived and not much later the movers were already moving in boxes. It all went very quickly because after 1,5 hours the were already done and I could starting unpacking the boxes and find a place for al our stuff. I started with the kitchen stuff and after that our clothes. Funny thing is that with some items you really think “I did not even know we brought that with us”. But I have to say that it is pretty cool to have our own stuff back after almost 6 weeks and that we can now eat from normal plates and have normal cups to drink tea. Finally no plastic cups anymore.

Because Sander is on his business trip right know, he does not have to worry about unpacking al of the 61 boxes. I hope I have everything ready by Saturday, because on Saturday he will be back from his business trip.

On Wednesday I started the day with a run through Mount Pleasant Cemetery. I now took the other side of the cemetery, which is more flat than the Yonge Street side (lucky me). It really felt good to run although with 5 degrees Celsius it was not that warm.

After I came back at our condo I continued the unpacking and organising and in the afternoon I decided to back some cupcakes. I found an american recipe for vanilla cupcakes online and got the ingredients at the supermarket across the street. Normally in Europe all the recipes for cupcakes are for 12 cupcakes, but after I made the dough I discovered this was dough for a little more than 12 cupcakes (more like 24 cupcakes). Off course I used my Kitchenaid to make the dough and the frosting and after 20 minutes in the oven my first cupcakes made in Canada were there.

For dinner Sabrina and I went to The KEG Steakhouse, which is also in our building next to Starbucks. Because both of our husbands are in Germany we thought we deserved a good steak. We both ordered the Sirloin Steak 8 oz with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and a local beer. It was delicious and we really enjoyed this restaurant. For dessert we went to our condo for some cupcakes, but not before we picked Suzy up from Sabrina’s condo.

On Thursday morning I let Suzy do what she is good at and did some more laundry, because all the clothing that went in the container really smells like… I do not know what it smells like but it is not nice. Almost everything is unpacked now (only some electronic stuff which is really more Sander’s department needs to be unpacked) and only one wineglass broke on the way from Altdorf to Toronto, so that is not bad.

Because the weather was so nice today I went for a walk all the way east on Eglinton Ave where I ended up at HomeSense which is a home decorating store. In total a walk from almost 8 kilometres. But it was really nice with this weather. And because I am really in love with the view from our condo, here another picture 🙂

On Saturday Sander is coming back from his business trip and then we can also pick up our car in Richmond Hill and I am really looking forward to that. See you on the next blog post…
